Benjamin O. Canada, Ph.D.
Mr. Canada is Associate Executive Director, District Services, Texas Association of School Boards. He worked in the education field for 35 years and served as a special education teacher, middle school vice principal, elementary principal, junior high principal, high school principal, assistant superintendent, deputy superintendent, and superintendent. He served as public schools superintendent in Portland, Oregon; Atlanta, Georgia; and Jackson, Mississippi.
He served as assistant superintendent for business/finance and operations services and deputy superintendent in Tucson, Arizona. He has served on numerous boards, including The Harvard University Urban Superintendents Advisory Board for nine years; The Danforth Forum for the American School Superintendent for ten years; and six years as a National Advisory Board Member of the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards & Student Testing (CRESST) He earned a Ph.D. in Education Administration at The University of Texas at Austin in 1989; M.Ed. in Education Administration at The University of Washington in 1971; and a BA in Elementary Education with emphasis in special education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1967.
